“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.” ―Louis L'Amour
Journaling can be such a freeing experience. We all need an outlet through which we can channel our thoughts, synthesize new and creative ideas, reflect on past experiences (whether good or bad), assess where we stand in our present and explore hopes for the future.
Sometimes, we want to write and just can’t find a good starting point. I’ve put together a list of writing prompts that will inspire you to reflect, jump-start your creativity and help you grow!
Faith
Describe your relationship with the Lord.
What motivates you to share your faith with others?
Who do you identify with the most in the Bible? Why?
In what ways is God working in your life right now?
Read Galatians 5:22-23. Which fruit of the spirit do you need to perfect at this stage of your life?
Family + Friends
Who has been the most influential in your life?
How would your closest friends describe you to someone that you do not know?
Where did you meet your best friend? What connects you?
With unlimited resources, how would you help your family?
In what ways do you demonstrate care to your family + friends?
The Future
What legacy do you want to leave?
Write your own obituary. (Yes, I know this seems a bit daunting, a bit morbid even. I remember doing this for an assignment when I was in college for a class on Grief, Death + Dying; it was such an eye-opening experience for me!)
Where will you be in five years? Ten years? (Come on…dare to dream, Darling!!)
Growing You
Think of yourself as a brand. What is your personal mission statement?
What is your greatest fear? What could/would you do if you were not afraid in this area?
What makes you cry?
What is your greatest success?
What do you love about yourself?
Write a letter to your elementary, middle and/or high school aged self.
Define what makes you unique.
If you love to journal, are there any other writing prompts you can share? If you chose to write from any of these topics, I would absolutely love for you to share your writing!
